How to Request a Blur
on Google Maps
Protect your privacy by blurring your home, vehicle, or face directly in Google Street View — in just a few simple steps.
Open Google Maps on your computer or mobile device. Make sure you’re using the full version at maps.google.com — the mobile app also works.
Search for the address or navigate to the specific spot you want blurred. You can type a full address, intersection, or landmark in the search bar.
Drag the small yellow “Pegman” icon (located in the bottom-right corner of the screen) onto the map, or click on a 360-degree photo of the area to enter Street View mode.
Once inside Street View, look for the small text link in the very bottom-right corner of the window that says “Report a problem”. It’s easy to miss — look carefully at the very edge of the screen.
A new page will open with a red selection box. Use your mouse to center the box precisely over the object you want to blur — your house, a license plate, or a face. Accuracy here helps Google process your request faster.
Under “Why are you reporting this image?”, select “Request blurring”, then choose the most appropriate option:
- My home
- A face
- My car / license plate
- Another object
You may be asked to provide a brief description of the object to help the Google review team identify it correctly. Be specific — for example: “the white two-story house with a red door” or “silver sedan in the driveway.”
Enter your email address, complete the CAPTCHA, and click Submit. Google will review your request and apply the blur — this typically takes a few days to a few weeks. You’ll receive a confirmation email once it’s processed.
Blurs on Google Maps are permanent — once applied, even the property owner cannot reverse them. Make sure you are centering the selection box over the correct object before submitting your request.
